PostHeaderIcon A tale of two sensors.

sc3004It is the best of cars, it is the worst of cars. It is the simplest of cars, wait.... no it isn't.

Six years ago,  I purchased my wife a 1996 SC300, it was a flood car from hurricane Katrina. It was not a salt water damaged car, but instead it was flooded by water from a freshwater lake.

I have replaced the following:

Seats, door panels, Engine/Transmission ECU, Alternator, Battery, Stereo System, Climate Control, instrument Cluster, Distributor Cap Rotor and Plugs, Wheels and Tires, Exhaust System all except the front cats.

It has been quite an adventure, so far. However, a few days ago, the car developed a new problem.

PostHeaderIcon Toyota GT-86

670x377ImageSo, it seems as though Toyota has teamed up with Subaru to design a car that is both pointless and a little silly. We start with the drivetrain, which seems to be derived from Subaru's parts bin. I have a great deal of respect for boxer engines. They're flat offering a low profile so the front hood of the car can be very low. That is unless, you pile a mountain of crap on top of the engine making it as tall as an inline four cylinder. Subaru used to place the spare tire over the engine, because there was so much room under the hood of their cars, even with the engine in place.

Aparently Subaru will be relasing it's own version of this same car, and in their STi trim, it should be an all wheel drive powerful monster to contend with the Mitsubishi Evolution, however I'm fairly confident Subaru will withhold all of the go-fast parts from their new partners at Toyota, and Toyota themselves will no doubt geld the potent little boxer engine because they're ecomentalists.

PostHeaderIcon So you've just won the lottery...

italiadashMost people, except for the very wealthy have thought about it; "What would I do if I won the lottery? What would be the first thing I would buy?"

To be honest, I'm one of those people. In fact I have a list. I rarely play the lottery so my odds of winning are not very good, but the difference between my odds of winning and the odds of someone that plays regularly are roughly the same, so I keep my money in my pocket and consider myself lucky to walk away without a powerball ticket. I'm a little more pragmatic than most people, but I still think about winning and what I would do with a large pile of money.

So here's the list, sort of...

PostHeaderIcon Top Gear

topgearukblaydeI have watched, and loved every episode of Top Gear from the United Kingdom which I can find. From the early days when it was called "Top Gear Extra" to the present series. The Stig, has changed, and they have shuffled the presenters a little, but over all the show and it's hosts simply work, now that the cast has found it's pace.

They are not perfect, often quoting the shows unofficial motto, "Ambitious, but rubbish." They are often unkind about America (well, Jeremy is at any rate), and seem to be only just polite to one another. Frankly brutal about cars which are deserving, and perhaps a little heavy with the praise on cars which are only moderately good.

PostHeaderIcon A recent conversation on facebook.

Facebook-icon Me: Well, let's see. Mother wants an Outback Wagon, so I found one in Bloomington Illinois, to which we are trading the Impala SS. We will drive the SS there and the Subaru back. But first, I have to get two of the E12s ready for Andrew this af...ternoon, because he is delivering the Junkuar, sorry Jaguar. Once Andrew is gone, I'll be driving to Frankfort, so we can leave early Saturday morning. When I leave Frankfort, I'll be leaving the Turbo E34 there (temporarily), and bringing a Mercedes E320 home. I'm not sure if I'll stay over night in Frankfort or not. Lots of miles.

Brian: Are we adding to the fleet or just a weapons upgrade?

PostHeaderIcon When it Rains, it Pours.

So, those of you that have visited this blog routinely, specifically for car related stuff, there's been a little bit of a drought on car related posts.

Consider this a monsoon.

PostHeaderIcon Bad Drivers

bad-driver-sign Recently my friend Angie expressed her displeasure with BMW drivers. She wanted to find one of the stickers that depicts the cartoon character Calvin urinating on a BMW logo. To her credit she didn't accuse all BMW drivers as being "turdfaces" and she apologized before hand to any of her friends that happen to own a BMW.
